PRESENTS A STOP THE GUN VIOLENCE FUNDRAISING EVENT
AT NEWLY RENOVATED LAUREL RACE PARK
"Racing to Eradicate Gun Violence Day" will be held on February 26, 2005
Washington, DC (February 21, 2005) – ROOT, Inc. (Reaching Out to Others Together), in conjunction with Laurel Raceway, is excited to announce “Racing to Eradicate Gun Violence Day”, a fundraiser, silent auction and horseracing event in support of its public education program GUNS ASIDE. This unprecedented event will be held February 26, 2005, from 11:30 AM to 5 PM at the Laurel Race Park, Carriage Room, in Laurel, Maryland Trail Blazing Sponsorship Investment/Magna Entertainment Corporation, owners of Laurel Raceway, have pledged their commitment to GUNS ASIDE by hosting this newly established annual event and by contributing $5,000 to the cause, challenging other organizations and individuals to do the same.
“Racing to Eradicate Gun Violence” promises to be a fun-filled day for the whole family. Participants can view electrifying live horse races, as well as receive personal instruction on handicapping.
In addition, Laurel Raceway will hold a horse race in honor of ROOT Inc/Guns Aside. The “winner’s circle,” comprised of celebrity guests and top contributors to the campaign, GUNS ASIDE creator Gary Bellamy, and ROOT founder and President, Kenneth E. Barnes, Sr., MS., will present trophies to the winning jockey and horse.
One-of-a-kind collectibles, including donations by the nation’s past and present leading jockeys, will be offered during a silent auction. Participants will also have the opportunity to enjoy a lavish buffet and open bar. Dedicated to inspiring youth through positive messages in communities, ROOT Inc. invites organizations and individuals to become sponsors of this special event.
The GUNS ASIDE campaign targets at-risk youth through a multi-media program aimed at reducing youth homicides. Through “Racing to Eradicate Gun Violence,” ROOT, Inc. hopes to garner funds and public recognition of this program as a means to further the cause and educate the Washington, DC metropolitan area.
