MEDIA ADVISORY
DC Idol Hands is a program founded by a 3rd District Police officer, Officer Billie Davis, assisted by another 3rd District police officer, Officer Derrick Ferguson. Its mission is to work with at risk young women, who may be gang members, or potential gang members residing in drug zones or violent crime areas.
ROOT, Inc. has agreed to assist Officer Davis in the implementation of the DC Idol Hands program and its efforts to change the lives of at risk young women in the District of Colombia.
During the holiday season the young ladies from the D.C. Idol Hands Program, in collaboration with ROOT Inc., the office of Council Member Vincent Orange, and the 5th District Police Station wish to make the holiday seasons more festive for young people.
Therefore, in the spirit of the holiday season, D.C. Idol Hands and ROOT will host a Christmas Party in the community room of the Department of Rehabilitative Services, located at 1000 Mt. Olivet Rd, NE on Saturday December 17, 2005, from 1 PM to 5 PM.
Youth who perhaps might be less fortunate will have an opportunity to take pictures with Santa as well as participate in other activities promoting good cheer. This event will also entertain families from citywide hot spots and violent crime areas, and offer them the opportunity to mingle with members of the police department as well as staff of the facility.
We will use this event to assist families with Christmas toys, that other wise would not be able to afford toys and provide positive entertainment from several citywide youth groups in an attempt to promote non-violent activities in The District of Columbia as well as give residents a chance to visit your facility.
We will be accepting tax deductible donations in the form of nonperishable foods, new stuffed animals, and personal hygiene items, i.e., new socks and underwear, to be donated to the homeless, group homes, or children admitted to Children€™s Hospital
Should you have any questions please contact Officer Davis on 301-674-2114 or Reba Simmons on 202-332-ROOT.
