Mission Statement:

ROOT, Inc (Reaching Out to Others Together) Inc. is a Washington, DC based a nonprofit, 501(c)3 organization, is committed to advocacy and intervention on behalf of homicide victims and their families. Our mission is to motivate and mobilize communities to take a proactive approach to reducing homicides and the senseless violence occurring in our cities.

Youth violence, perpetrated both by and against young people, results in enormous physical, emotional, social, and economic consequences. Although youth violence has declined significantly in recent years, much work remains to reduce this public health burden. Homicide is the second leading cause of death among 15- to 24-year-olds overall. ROOT Inc. believes, as the Centers for Disease Control does, that gun violence and youth violence is a public health issue.  Violence is a symptom of the problem – not the problem. ROOT Inc. has identified a three prong approach to preventing and reducing gun violence and youth violence through advocacy, awareness, and education.
